weavers and opportunities
after a long time, i finally got around to visit the easter weaving room, which is some distance from the center of baguio city. my tita sent me a message thursday morning, asking me to buy a particular woven cloth, and i thought it was a good excuse to go to easter. a shop just beside the easter weaving school, it's a huge souvenir center, not only with cloth sold by the meter, but also of bags, shirts, handicrafts, woodcarvings, etc. at the basement are looms, with weavers working side-by-side. i went to observe them first. i had figured out, on a trip to banaue a few years back, the technique, but it was great to see it firsthand once again. they weave very fast and efficiently, considering some of the weavers would chat while they worked. and they came up with beautiful patterns, with vivid colors.

i proceeded upstairs to pick out patterns, happily, they're on sale til the end of the year! while i was looking around, i bumped into ocs, a photographer i used to work with at the magazine. he was with some GH staff, doing features on baguio. i met the editor, jing, and she said maybe i could write from baguio (and about baguio) for their mag. hurrah!
i was able to buy different patterns of cloth, thanks mostly to the sale. happily, i went back to town, and bought some pasalubongs from the market.
