is it or isn't it?

i know not everyone can give compliments straight. but i honestly usually cannot decipher a "masked" compliment. or even "silent" compliments. i'm manhid, as in. for example, when someone says: "sama ka na, magpa-cute ka nalang doon"--is that a compliment? it didn't seem sarcastic, so i don't want to think negatively.
or in conversation, when i say: "i hope they appreciated my presence there", and someone says: "i'm sure they did". is that? so am i supposed to say "thank you" or not?
sheesh! i know there are bigger problems in the world. but sometimes, i like to dwell on the little things in my life. my social skills are so olats!
