dance! dance! dance!

UP baguio has made me do what many in the past have failed: made me perform a dance in public. apparently, as "initiation", the new faculty represent our college at the annual Pasiklaban, the university's Christmas party program. AND we have to dance. we can't just sing or do poetry reading or deliver monologues. we have to dance. i think the last time i had to perform a dance in public was in high school. yup, that was it. i was never prevailed upon to dance during college. and certainly not in all my years as a careerwoman. until now. i did everything i could to resist, but apparently, it's not up for discussion. so, we danced to "get right" by j. lo. just as well, it was originally supposed to be that terrible "don't cha" song, but the steps are just too difficult for amateurs like us to do. so our choreographers (from the dance group "shadows", which is made up of UP baguio students, but popular all over the city) decided we should work on this song instead. so we practiced practically every day for 4 days, and my legs hurt! every time i needed to go up or down a flight of stairs, i have to groan. we had to ask the students to make the steps easier for us. they were mostly deaf to our pleas. thankfully, since there were only 3 of us, 3 of the girls agreed to join us in the performance. so that made us a little less nervous. but just a bit.
so how'd we do? we were 3rd to the last to perform, on a very cold december night. i just remember hearing the music, the continued shouts of the students in the distance, and going through the motions. as soon as we were done with the dance, we hauled ass and got out of there. **BIG SIGH of relief**
