getting up to (music) speed

i haven't been updated about music in recent months, so i find that i'm barraged with new songs (at least to my ears)--like i'm cramming to catch up with the rest of the radio-listening world. somehow, songs on instant replay in my head and mp3 player (yes, finally succumbed to temptation and bought one) have one theme.
