great oscars show
i refuse to address the previous post (and succeeding comments) which has turned out to be ‘provocative’:)
it's only appropriate that my "comeback" post is about the 79th academy awards. as far as i can remember, i have not missed the results of the oscars. there was even a time when i was working at a TV station, that we were "required" to watch it live! the show promised to be long, of course. but i thought ellen's opening monologue was truly funny, despite being rather long. i love how penelope cruz and kate winslet looked. and to my absolute delight, all my men were presentors: my hubby robert downey jr., my boyfriend gael garcia bernal, and my kabit hugh jackman.
i must confess i didn't watch "the departed" as a statement against hollywood's rip-off of hong kong creativity--asian creativity, in general. i like martin scorsese's work, but could not believe that leonardo di caprio was the lead. anyway, i don't have basis to begrudge it its wins, but what made me and my friends shout at the TV was when the oscar commentator said: "the departed" is an adaptation of the japanese film "infernal affairs". WHOA! how could they get that sooo wrong? "infernal", which stars the divine andy lau is a cult classic from hong kong!!! argh! but i'm not surprised. look at america, being in a dubious war...tsk! tsk!anyway, i'm glad al gore has not bowed to pressure to run as president. it would just taint his cause.
over-all, the oscars show thoroughly entertained me (the length, i already anticipated), though i didn't agree withe most of the results.

buti naman nabuhay ka! i don't have a tv, so the most i could do was to look at the red carpet gallery on oscars.com.
i've only seen the first few minutes of "the departed". it's quite different and very american.
Well, my mom, aunt, and I all think that Jennifer Hudson should not have won that award. And did you hear that performance? Flats and sharps, dude! I wanted either the kid in Sunshine or the Jap (?) girl in Babel to win Best Supporting. Hmph.
super natawa ako na affected ka about "the departed" being the american version of the "japanese" film "infernal affairs"...dahil ako din affected! :P i didn't watch "the departed" either as a show of support for the original hong kong flick. at, hindi ko rin maatim na si leonardo dicaprio ang lead.
but then, if you think about it, "infernal affairs" is like "the godfather" din. just goes to show that art imitates art.
