smart vs pretty

so, ok, people always say they put a premium on smarts, right? not! come on, it's a superficial world we live in, where the young, sexy and beautiful are used to sell anything from car paint to men's cologne. there are beauty pageants on every level--from ms. barangay bagong silang to ms world to ms universe, and everything in between. and to start them young, there are even pageants for little miss. so, really, how can you say that?
so when people pick on beauty queens because they're not that smart or can't communicate well, i just have to ask: oh, come on, she's a beauty queen, what do you want from her? if people wanted really smart girls, then there would be more quiz bees and we would laud the winners of battle of the brains and who wants to be a millionaire? (miss the time when those shows were all the fad! geeks/nerds like me were on top of the world!)
but if you ask me, i still thank God for my smarts. i may not be beauty-queen material, but i'm smart. each of us is equipped to live the life we were meant to live, i think.
