get me a motorcycle!
i've had a copy for a while now, but just finally watched the movie, "the motorcycle diaries" with the adorable gael garcia bernal. and i loved it! not merely because gael is, as always, gorgeous. but also because the views are amazing! it was as if i was on the trip with them through south america as well (how i wish!). gael plays a young che guevara, and we see how this trip (coming-of-age doesn't seem to encapsulate it) changes him. my friend, bing, says che was actually very handsome. even moreso than gael. but then, that's her opinion. haha!
having studied some latin american history, i think the film does a splendid job of making che's reality (and that of his contemporaries) more real to the viewers of this generation. my favorite line--by che, as he was contemplating the ruins of the aztecs--is this: how can a civilization who built this (showing the ruins) be destroyed to build this (showing a smoggy, modern city)?
i can only hope that my own "motorcycle diaries" (sans motorcycle) adventures will make a small difference in the lives of people, not just mine.
on a different note, i'd love to get an original DVD of this!
