movies to watch
i'm excited about 2 movies recently screened at cannes, i'm beside myself! which one to talk about first...well, i'll start with my hubby's movie.

"a scanner darkly" stars my hubby RDJ, oh, and keanu is also co-starring. anyway, it's directed by the wonderful richard linklater who also superbly wrote (i think) and directed "before sunrise" and "before sunset". now, this new movie, is again visionary and promises to be a must-see again and again! i don't know much about sci-fi, but this adaptation of dick's work promises to be entertaining and engaging, thanks to the talents of downey and linklater. something novel, though i'm not quite sure yet about its purpose, is the use of CGI/animation on top of the live action images. i'm sure there' s a technical term for it, just don't know what it is.

another movie, this time starring my boyfriend (ahehehehe!) gael garcia bernal is directed by michel gondry (who directed mems' fave, "eternal sunshine"): "the science of sleep". at first, there was some hype about how gael has 'enormous hands' here, but then, when i read the synopsis, i understand it's in keeping with the theme of dreams and fluidity of reality--or the thin line between the two. but then, who's to say dreams aren't real? the added element of "culture" (it's set in paris), makes it even more interesting to me. wonder how gael sounds speaking french?
both linklater and gondry have proven to be very talented, skilled auteurs (yes, not merely directors) in the past--taking control of all elements of the filmmaking process, resulting in beautiful films. and jhun and gael have mostly starred in meaningful movies. or at the very least, have made their appearances on film stellar. syempre, talented ang boys ko. hahaha!
