Empathy
Empathy- Your inner power is Empathy! This
means that you have a talent for identifying
others emotions, often by simply glancing at
them. You are EXTREMELY shy and quiet. People
sometimes dont notice youre around and seem
surprised to find out you even exist in a big
class. Youre the often silent, goody two shoes,
and few get passed the walls youve built up to
stop yourself being hurt, as you no doubt have
been in the past. Not everyone understands you,
in fact some think that youre a snob or worse
because you rarely participate in group
activities. Youre extremely sensitive, even the
least harsh of words can hurt you. Only your
very few, closest friends who have earned your
hard-to-get trust know who you really are
inside; a sweet, gentle young woman who is
lonely and so desperately needing friends to
support you. You can get very depressed and not
always know why, despite your power of empathy,
as it seems to only work for people outside
you. Your friends always turn to you when they
need advice or comforting, and in some way you
need to give that helpit makes you feel better
in return to know that youve helped out your
friends. Despite your cold, impassive exterior
and high, seemingly unbreachable walls, inside
you are really a great, intelligent person,
full of compassion and love, if only people
would dare take a chance and try to get through
your tough shell. Never let others get you
down, or change you. You are very special the
way you areeven if you dont have fifty thousand
friends, you are just as, if not more
extraordinary than everyone else. Reach for the
stars, because I dont doubt youll catch hold of
them.
Boy/Girl who will sweep you off your feet:
A sweet, shy and romantic man/woman. The kind
of guy/woman you know will never, ever hurt
you, and will love you for ever. The kind of
person who believes in true love, and soul
mates.
Your stone: Blue Topaz
Your power: Healing. Emotionally,
physically, or spiritually, you heal people
with your words, your actions and presence.
Youre the one that the little children are
always drawn to, because they know youll never
let anything hurt them.
Your element: Clairvoyance (The power to
see objects or events that cannot be perceived
by the normal five senses.)
A quote that applies to you: "True
beauty shines from the soul and warms the world
with its kindness, compassion , and
integrity
."

What's your inner power? (Girls only sorry. Beautiful anime pictures, lengthy results)

touching moment

i'm so blessed with meeting so many great friends, i think that's the most valuable thing this job has given me. i must admit, i was a virtual anti-social during my first year. but as i had to talk to more people, i formed bonds of friendship with officemates. and those are priceless.
kat, who i met through my friend cecile, and i have a lot in common as well. so we understand when each of us unloads. good thing we alternate having "issues". she's my "he's just not that into you" sister! she promises to visit me in baguio.
miel, who is years younger than i, i met through our former ed asst, candy, who's now with GMA. but since we went to the same high school, discovered we had some of the same interests and complimenting temperaments, we became much closer. and you know my mental age is really 21. hehehe! she's really sad about me leaving, but in her trademark perky manner, she still makes our recent conversations light.
koko and i share the same passion for everything childlike, maybe even childish! during our brainstorming sessions, we are always on the same wavelength about kids' activities that we can come up with for the magazines! those same sessions inevitably run long because of our enthusiasm, and nonstop idea-sharing.
midday friday, when i get into the office straight from claiming documents, i find an envelope on my table with my name on it. it's a card from koko with michael vartan pictures inside!!!! so sweet of her.

changes

i'm really going to do it. i'm all set. i'm going to try to build a life for myself away from home. admittedly, they're baby steps. but that's how i like it...slow. by nov. 7, i will be embarking on my new career in baguio as a university professor. everybody's asking me: "why?" and "do you really want to do it?" i don't know FOR SURE, but i do know these things:
i love baguio
i don't hate the idea of teaching
i want time to write
i need this chance to grow

so i'm off to a less stressful, more promising, more fulfilling, definitely more socially-relevant job.
i went through the whole range of emotions already: fear of the unknown, hesitation, doubt, confusion, and excitement. now i'm definitely happy and excited.
of course, i'm sad to be leaving this comfort zone, this life that i've been living with minimal variation. still and all, it's not like i'm moving to another country. i'll be back for christmas break, and possibly in feb. and my contract, for now, ends in april. i realized also that the unknown may be scary, but the adventurous side of me can't wait! i've this romantic fantasy of being the struggling writer there--who knows how many works i'll be able to finish there at last! cyan says that ambeth ocampo (who i love! love! love!) says cool climates are good for writing. how can i go wrong?
so for the long break, i'm putting things in order, just so there are no loose ends in manila. and i can start fresh in the city of pines.
and yes, yes, feel free to visit me when you're there.:)

running in the mall

thursday morning, i was really early (for the whole week, seems i had enough energy to wake up very early to go to work), so i decided to take a stroll in the mall before-hours. it was such a different side from the congested wall-to-wall mass of people that are common this time of year. i couldn't help it, i broke into a run! and i don't mean the half-run-half-skip kind either. i sprinted around the supermarket and the food court--about 100 m, i would guess. what a rush! now i can scratch that off the list of "to-do"'s. or, well, technically, it wasn't on the list, but maybe i'll put it in another list: things i've done.
anyone else sprinted in a mall? tell me what interesting thing you've done lately!

a bit of art and culture

nanie, cely, and i grabbed some free chow at burgoo in rockwell last saturday (i'm doing an article on them), along with bubbles, a, pat, eric, amped, and xandro. new acquaintances. afterwards, we finally got a chance to go to the new, spruced up ayala museum in greenbelt. the entrance fee is P150. students get a discount. unfortunately, nanie and i weren't considered students, bec. the discount only applied to undergrads, apparently. argh!
we proceeded to view some great modern art by gabriel barredo (some chiz from the guard: he's a cousin of lea salonga). i loved his use of industrial materials. and to me, the statement was the dehumanization of the human race by technology and mechanisms. it was amazing--esp. since some of his art actually moved! (sorry, i don't know the "artsy" term for that. installation, is it?)
we then took the spacious elevator to the 4th floor, where we viewed Philippine church art from the 19th c. it was very educational, and i was impressed by how well-preserved the items were.
on the 3rd floor are the works of luna, amorsolo, and zobel. i loved luna's "woman with manton" and "la marquesa", which had me fixated. they were of the romantic style, i think. amorsolo's "at the market" was so sundrenched, i felt like i was looking at a photograph! i think it was the closest i'd been to an amorsolo, and the sunny atmosphere was fantastic! zobel's works were the most diverse--understandably, because he had the most training and exposure. we loved the sketches of the dog and pferd.
on the 2nd floor, we had a walking tour of the diorama of phil. history, whose last stop was about the EDSA revolution. i guess our concepts of history have become so convoluted, that they can't come up with "stops" about more recent events. sadly, some points of history were not familiar to me. have to brush up on my history! there was also an exhibit of tom epperson's photos. the highlight: several photos of fernando and JAZA on a giant trampoline. cute!
of course, on our way out, we had to take a photo of our fabulous museum day.

got tagged

missed jac's wedding (darn you, heartburn!), but got tagged. so here goes...
10 years ago, i was...
just finishing my second year, first sem at UP. as far as i remember, i dressed way down, loved running home during breaks to my tita's unit in UP bliss (they have since given that up, and my 2 cousins are in the US now) to nap, and loved everything about the filmmaking process--late nights and all (some things never change!).
5 years ago, i was...
just off my stint as PA of the manila staging of miss saigon. one thing i learned there: bosses can be such a pain in the ass! major pain! that experience gave me a reference point for when later on, i'd experience bad bosses, and then i could say "wala kayo sa boss ko dati..." and that, things didn't seem so bad.
yesterday...
i came in late to the office because i was still reeling from my darn "condition" (yes, heartburn), but had a lot of work waiting on the wings.--of course, deadline week e!
5 snacks i like...
some of which i may not be able to eat anymore:(--strawberries, fishballs from UP, white chocolate-covered raisins, dorito's, and jelly beans (at least these, i'm still allowed to eat).
5 things i would do with $100M...
pay my tithes, travel/backpack, buy books, send poor children to school, save in the bank if there's any left over.
5 places i would run away to...
baguio, siargao, new zealand, europe, japan
5 things i would never wear...
i have to agree with jac on: anything with shoulder pads and micro-mini skirt, tube top, knee-high socks, my heart on my sleeve;)
5 favorite TV shows/entertainment...
CSI, without a trace, jdoramas, film festivals, plays
5 bad habits...
being tactless, taking on more than i can do, being too easily "manipulated", jumping to conclusions, falling in love too soon/too easily
5 biggest joys...
being out of town, reading, "marathoning" a series, bargain shopping at divi and dvd shopping in quiapo (both with my friends)
5 favorite toys...
wind-up happy meal toys, gameboy, snakes and ladders, cluedo, those big, elaborate games where something with wheels goes up and down and around tracks
5 fictional characters i would date...
mark darcy (from bridget jones's diary), mr. darcy (from pride and prejudice), larry (from ally mcbeal), kevin (from monster in law), jamie (from love actually)
5 persons i tag to do this...
cely, pau, pam, tala, toni
